Sea urchin Hakea

Hakea petiolaris

This eye-catching native has an upright spreading habit that develops into a small tree. Its attractive pale, grey-green leaves – and creamy purplish flowers held in large globular shaped clusters resembling sea urchins – make it an ideal statement specimen in a garden, a screening plant or consider it for an avenue tree on a rural property.  Thrives in an open, sunny position in well drained soil (avoid too much humidity as susceptible to root rot) and can tolerate light frost. This hakea will delight in late autumn through to early winter with its striking blooms.
