For pots, poolside, on the deck or to bring interest with colour and texture, start something this Summer in your space large or small with these picks from our Native Plant Project e-nursery:

Chrysocephalum apiculatum ramosissimum ‘Yellow Buttons’

Great for pots, a ground cover, drifts and ideal for coastal gardens too, this bright and cheery prostrate groundcover produces small, yellow, button like flowers from Spring to late Autumn. It grows well in sun or part shade and is water-wise and light frost tolerant. Be sure to plant in well drained soil.  Approx H: 0.20m W: 1 metre.

Alyogyne huegelii ‘West Coast Gem’ Native Hibiscus

If you need to fill a space in your garden, this fast growing shrub has a long flowering period from Spring, Summer and through to Autumn. It attracts butterflies and bees and works well as an informal hedge.  Best results come from planting in a sunny position, with well drained soil, adding a native fertilizer in Spring and a light prune/shape after Spring. Approx H: up to 2m W: up to 1.5m

Lomandra confertifolia ‘Little Con’ Matt Rush

This verdant clumping grass-like perennial looks great as a border, planted on mass as a striking ground cover or as a feature plant in pots. It is hardy and can tolerate a variety of conditions, and if ever damaged by weather, just cut it right back and new growth will follow. Approx H: 0.3 metres W: 0.5 metres

Isopogon dubius ‘Rose Cone Flower’

This striking, compact shrub will brighten the cooler months with masses of pink coloured flower heads that the birds and butterflies love. Use it as a feature plant or to fill gaps in a larger garden and enjoy it for cut flowers. It prefers a sunny position.  Approx: H: 0.7~1m  W: 0.7~1m

Banksia paludosa ‘Little Pal’

For banksia lovers with smaller gardens, this little shrub is perfect for containers and courtyards or it works well poolside or planted en masse as low hedging. Its beautiful yellow flowers will brighten up the cooler months from autumn to winter and its dense growth provides shelter to lizards and the nectar attracts birds. Very low maintenance, it tolerates heavy frost, enjoys sun to light shade and well drained soil. Approx H: up to 0.5 metres W: up to 1.2 metres
