Gastrolobium

Gastrolobium praemorsum ‘Brown Butterfly’

A beautiful small shrub with dark bronze leaves that resemble butterfly wings, this native plant dazzles in summer with the appearance of masses of bright red pea flowers which also attract nectar feeding birds. Great for groundcover but is spectacular when allowed to cascade over slopes, rockeries, retaining walls, large pots and hanging baskets. Give it a light prune after a heavy flush of flowers to help it thicken up as groundcover. While it grows in part shade, the brown colour of the foliage shines in full sun.
