Grass tree

Xanthorrhoea glauca

An Australian icon, the hardy grass tree has a rough dark textured trunk (usually as a result of bushfires) and distinctive blue-green grass like leaves that tuft at the top. Extremely slow growing (1-2cms a year) they will produce beautiful honey scented flowers after bushfires – or when healthy. Popular as a statement feature in the garden, in rockeries or for container planting, they need very well-draining soil and full sun – but can also tolerate part shade.
