Grass Tree

Xanthorrhoea preissii

Native to Western Australia, this distinctive shrub makes an intriguing feature plant in coastal, courtyard and low maintenance gardens — but be prepared to be patient as this species is very slow growing.
The trunk is thick and dark giving way to long grass-like leaves and a tall spike that produces creamy white flowers every 2-3 years. Plant in full sun with well-draining soil. Once established it’s drought hardy and tolerant to light frost.
