Grass Tree

Xanthorrhoea australis

These grass trees have a rough, dark coloured trunk with long narrow, grass like leaves at the top.  It is a food source for nectar eating birds when in flower and seed eating birds when it is developing seeds.  It’s an extremely slow growing specimen, taking up 10-15 years to flower but when it does it produces a dramatic spear. Prefers well drained soil and a sunny position.
